Eater is reporting that Element, the upscale nightclub inside the old Provident Loan Society building on East Houston, is shutting down for good. Over a month and counting since the ambitious new Levi’s billboard above East Houston was last functional. In late September, the complex collection of cogs, which together spell the slogan “We are all workers,” stopped working altogether. It basically rendered a unique display into something fairly run-of-the-mill.

The massive Levi’s billboard above the intersection of Lafayette and East Houston is still busted. In fact, the mechanism of gears hasn’t worked for a number of weeks now. Well, it was a good two-month run.

It’s over the Bowery and through the stench to more Violet & Daisy filming we go. Yesterday, the shoot occupied parts of Stanton, Ludlow, and Essex Streets. Today, the feature is moving production to Broome between Elizabeth and Lafayette.

Ladies and gentlemen, behold the bare broadside of The Nolitan at 30 Kenmare Street, Little Italy’s latest trendy hotel monstrosity. The last remnants of scaffolding and rotten plywood are no longer in the picture. Just some odds-and-ends sidewalk fencing.

Yesterday morning, The Real Deal brought blockbuster news that REI will be opening a tremendous outpost in the landmarked Puck Building at the southeast corner of East Houston and Lafayette. The sporting goods store recently inked the deal with Kushner Companies, which owns the property, and plans to open in fall 2011.
