The quirky stationary store Hudson Street Papers folded and vacated 149 Orchard Street in June 2009.  It was originally located in the West Village but moved to the neighborhood the previous year.  At the time of closure, the owner was reported to have said, “The Lower East Side is bad news.” Now their old storefront [...]

So that explains why the Chico mural outside the old Kampuchea was whitewashed last week. The Allen Street facade of 78 Rivington is now the de facto store signage for the new sandwicherie Bun & Co.
