Bowery Boogie | A Lower East Side Chronicle

Behind the smoked, slatted glasswork of the Sperone Westwater Gallery at 257 Bowery, the hotly-anticipated elevator has received its defining “Ferrari-red” hue.  This just a few weeks after the lift was first installed.

Volkswagen is filming a commercial in the neighborhood today.  Orchard and Ludlow Streets between East Houston and Stanton are to be cordoned off for the shoot.

Preparations and renovations are complete, as Stanton Pizza is now serving at 127 Stanton Street. The pizza parlor opened on Friday afternoon with bunches of “good luck” balloons, and has since littered the neighborhood with its menus.

Four months later, looks like those plans to open a grilled cheese joint at 101 Stanton melted, as it were.  Back in April, we caught wind that a restaurant called Melted was to open there, and management had applied for a beer and wine license. A two-bedroom vacation rental listing for Donald’s Place at 175 Stanton Street teems with just the type of broker babble that makes us queasy. Donald himself wants to spoil you with an “unforgettable luxury New York experience” at his abode for two bills a night.  And what do you get for that kind of money [...]
