Recap: Showdown in Chinatown 2010

Yesterday evening, the third annual Nash-Reyna Showdown in Chinatown overtook Sara D. Roosevelt Park between Rivington and Stanton Streets.  Much like previous years, the eight-on-eight friendly was great fun – an entertaining match backed by a pulsating soundtrack of tasty beats and enthusiastic audience cheering.

For the third consecutive year, Steve Nash is bringing his Showdown in Chinatown soccer (nay, futbol) match to the Lower East Side.  The event will be held in Sara D. 146 Orchard Street Awaits Mystery Restaurant

In recent weeks, work has jump-started inside 146 Orchard Street.  Doors are open on many days to reveal a halfway-complete interior.  When we walked past yesterday morning, two workers were busy with decor – painting, hanging colorful wallpaper, etc.  Both declined to comment on the venture, and said that a namesake is still unknown.  Nevertheless, [...]

M. Katz & Sons’ Former Essex Street Home to Become Restaurant?

Within the last couple weeks a fresh sidewalk shed was erected at the entrance of 146 Essex Street.  This was the home of M. Katz & Sons Furniture for over five decades.  No longer.  Word on the street is that a new restaurant will be opening here.
