Ladies and gentlemen, the gavel has fallen, and the verdict is now in regarding the proposed restaurant-slash-bar at 168 Elizabeth Street.  A reader wrote to inform us that Community Board 2 voted unanimously against Matthew Oliver Maddy at its full board meeting on June 17.

East Boat Lobster Relocates from Kenmare to Mott

The under-the-radar, yet popular East Boat Lobster Restaurant recently vacated 72 Kenmare Street. It no longer fits in with the glitz. Deemed New York’s “weirdest eatery” by the Post back in 2001, the decades-old banquet hall now adorns a ginormous “for rent” sign over its classic green signage. But, rest easy, all is not lost.

In response to our post regarding the new nightlife establishment at 168 Elizabeth Street, owner Matthew Maddy emailed us his side of the story.  Apparently the sub-level digs won’t be a beer garden as posited by flyers along the Bowery.

The middle section of Elizabeth Street is trying desperately to unite against a new subterranean beer garden moving into number 168.  The ambiguous entity of “Matthew Oliver Maddy d/b/a Hot Talk LLC” is currently seeking a liquor license at next week’s Community Board 2 meeting.  Flyers along Bowery urge those residents within earshot to write [...]
