As the landlord of 87 Orchard Street continues to pursue retail tenants, the onetime home of Guss’ Pickles is now exposed. No more pictures or price list obstructions in the windows.

With Guss’ Pickles officially gone from the Lower East Side (both the name and the business), the search for a new tenant at 87 Orchard Street has begun. A flimsy “for rent” sign is taped beneath their moving announcement.  Asking price for the cramped quarters is $2,000 per month.

It’s now official – Guss’ Pickles (nay, Ess-a-Pickle) is forever gone from the Lower East Side.  If you crave their delicious brand of pickles or Passover horseradish, you’ll need to schlep out to Borough Park.  Visual confirmation is nailed to the shuttered gates of 87 Orchard Street.

Guss’ Pickles has been eerily quiet recently.  Our last dozen attempts to purchase full sours were met with the stark reality of a roll-down security gate. Alas, their time on the Lower East Side draws nigh.

Under beautiful partly cloudy skies, the Ninth Annual NYC International Pickle Day was held yesterday in the Municipal Parking Lot at the corner of Ludlow and Broome Streets.  This year’s celebration of pickled fare was somewhat overshadowed by the noticeable absence of Guss’ Pickles from the group of vendors.  They remained in their soon-to-be-vacant 87 Orchard Street locale.
