Grand Street Fire: Body Pulled from Building

The devastating fire that ripped through 283-285 Grand Street has reportedly claimed its first victim. The Associated Press news wire is reporting that the body of an elderly man was pulled from the smoldering tenement building.

Shortly before midnight last night, a seven-alarm fire tore through 283 Grand Street, and spread to 285.  This morning, the scene remains active.

Fighting Fire in the Driving Rain

Noontime this past Saturday, Fort Pitt Tower Ladder 18 was busy extinguishing a car engine fire in the driving rain.  The event transpired in the southbound lane on Allen Street, just below Delancey.

Essex Dental Office at 143 Essex Temporarily Closed

Essex Dental Office, one of the ground floor tenants of 143 Essex Street, is reportedly sidelined for the next few days.  This temporary closure is most likely due to damages sustained during the fire which broke out last Thursday night.
