Since opening at 147 East Houston fourteen months ago, Chickpea never really had much luck drawing a crowd.  In fact, the place was usually empty during peak dining hours – lunch, dinner, late night.  So it comes as little surprise that the local franchise decided to close this outpost.

The Subway franchise at 334 Grand Street is just days from opening its doors to the Lower East Side.  According to a store worker cleaning the windows, the upscale Palazzo Grey eatery fast food slop-house should begin serving on Wednesday.
Time to place your wagers on when we should expect the inevitable visit from “Subman.”
