Subway Signage at Avalon Chrystie

The recent onslaught of Subway restaurants across the neighborhood continues in earnest. As we reported last month, the Avalon Chrystie is poised to host its very own franchise at 229 Chrystie Street, right alongside Whole Foods. While little activity has transpired to prepare the fast food joint for action, official signage is now in place.

At the southwest corner of Delancey and Forsyth Streets, in the shadow of Templo Adventista del Septimo, a tiny parcel of Sara D. Roosevelt Park has become a colorful junkyard of sorts.

Tight Squeeze on Orchard Street

Watching garbage trucks negotiate the narrowest of city streets is always quite remarkable.  Of course, much to the dismay of trapped motorists.  That’s when the horns start sounding.  This particular truck eventually made it through. Tight squeeze spotted on Orchard Street, just above Stanton.

Rats Come Alive on Orchard Street

There is a fairly nondescript trash bin at the northeast corner of Orchard and Grand Streets which comes alive every night.  Without fail. Being a quiet spot with tons of leftovers, neighborhood rats long ago marked this territory as a valuable refueling station.
