Bowery Boogie | A Lower East Side Chronicle

Today, during the third consecutive day of rain and gale-force winds, the Lower East Side is a flooded umbrella cemetery.  The skeletal remains of umbrellas litter the streets – most are upturned and in precarious positions near garbage cans, or in the middle of traffic.  Herewith, a few choice snapshots of the carnage.

Guss’ Pickles has been eerily quiet recently.  Our last dozen attempts to purchase full sours were met with the stark reality of a roll-down security gate. Alas, their time on the Lower East Side draws nigh.

After an overwhelming amount of media hype, Snowmaggedon 2010 is now behind us.  Herewith, some obligatory pictures of the Lower East Side blanketed in slush and snow.  All shots were taken yesterday during the height of the blizzard.  Enjoy!
