The Schott Brothers on the Lower East Side

You might not realize it, but you owe quite a debt of gratitude to Schott Brothers.  Next time you zip up one of your jackets, know that it was Schott who pioneered the concept.  The American clothing company first planted roots in the Lower East Side in 1913, and has quite a unique history.

As previously reported, a smattering of local art houses across the Lower East Side are reinterpreting the neighborhood-specific Lush Life chapter by chapter.  The gallery exhibitions pretty much run through mid to late August.  And author Richard Price is capitalizing on all the recent press.

This is pretty awesome.  East Village Feed just dug up this elegant time lapse video of the Lower East Side at night, created by Jean-Paul Lew.  It’s shot from atop First Avenue, looking southward below East Houston.  And the Thompson LES is in full view.
