Bowery Boogie | A Lower East Side Chronicle

Along with EV Grieve, we’ve certainly been keeping tabs on the sidewalk dining situation at Pulino’s Bar and Pizzeria.  Since the joint opened, tables situated in the Bowery-facing window-doors merely flirted with the concrete, but barely crossed the threshold.  That is no longer the case.

In which Nate Appleman was spotted taking a break from his kitchen inside Pulino’s Bar and Pizzeria.  He was on his cell, pacing back and forth as hordes of people scurried past during the evening rush.

The piecemeal reveal of Pulino’s Bar and Pizzeria continues.  Although the nearly two-year-old sidewalk shed was finally removed from 282-284 Bowery a couple weeks ago, plastic tarps remained in place to block any clear view of the interior.  Even this close to opening, the foreman appears to be running a tight ship, so as not [...]

The after-hours work continues at 282-284 Bowery, new home of Pulino’s Bar and Pizzeria.  Indeed, a day after snagging a quick glimpse of the brick-and-tile interior, away comes the plywood. We passed the construction site last night and were met with an almost-unfettered view of the Bowery exterior.  This morning it’s nearly all clear.

Behind the bill-laden sidewalk shed of 282-284 Bowery, Pulino’s Bar and Pizzeria is racing toward the finish line.  The lights were on well into the evening hours.  Peering through one unobstructed window, there is finally some semblance of what’s in store.  And it’s all about tile, brick, and cast-iron doors.

Pulino’s has been modifying its front entrance doorbell for well over a month.  The bell was first affixed to the door itself, and accompanied by a hand-written instructional message.  This immediately prompted a response from a familiar sticker – “fuck you, I’m Batman.” Even Batman is anxious in the run-up to the official opening.
