NYPD: Chinatown Streets Off Limits to ‘Placard Parking’

Posted March 31, 2017 at 5:00 am

This is big. The 5th Precinct effectively announced that placard parking in Chinatown is a thing of the past. Flyers began circulating the neighborhood a couple weeks ago stating that streets in the area are a “permit free zone.” Chinatown activist Karlin Chan has been fighting the issue for years. Specifically, drivers who abused the […]

With Business Struggling, Stores on Clinton Street Push to Overturn Loading Zone

Last modified November 11, 2015 at 1:32 pm

It’s no secret that Clinton Street businesses have been struggling of late. Deemed a shopping area, rising rents, decreased daytime foot traffic, and increased real estate taxes have created a perfect storm of hinderance. (Remember also that the street itself is haunted.) A reported nine of twenty-one stores on the west side of Clinton Street are vacancies. […]

The Downsides of Parking Near a Velvet Rope [PHOTOS]

Posted February 13, 2015 at 11:15 am

We received the above photo on our tipline this morning, shot by Boogie reader Mike Brown. Muni Meters Invade Orchard Street

Posted February 4, 2009 at 10:18 am

The Lower East Side takes yet another step toward modernity this week. Indeed, parking meters along Orchard Street will get the axe tomorrow to make way for new-fangled Muni Meters. A fond farewell to a vanishing street icon. The cynic in me anticipates plenty of malfunctions. And happy motorists. Related Reading:Parking Meters [Vanishing NY]

Fenced In

The walk-through parking lot on the northwest corner of Houston and Lafayette is now fenced in. A shortcut no more. However, there are cool cardboard cutouts of King of the Hill characters to soften the blow.

No Parking: Gossip Girl

Last modified June 27, 2012 at 1:39 am

Gossip Girl will be filming in the neighborhood next Wednesday, from 9 AM to 10:45 PM. Alas, the area itself will undoubtedly become a scene for plenty of camera-toting teens. Thanks in advance to Warner Brothers for inconveniencing us all.
