Bowery Boogie | A Lower East Side Chronicle

After a couple months of preparation, Pizza Junkie is now open at 11 Stanton Street, just a stone’s throw from Pulino’s Bar and Pizzeria.  The late-night slice-shop quietly opened last week on a staggered schedule.

Last night, Pulino’s signage was hoisted into place.  There were gawkers aplenty.

The after-hours work continues at 282-284 Bowery, new home of Pulino’s Bar and Pizzeria.  Indeed, a day after snagging a quick glimpse of the brick-and-tile interior, away comes the plywood. We passed the construction site last night and were met with an almost-unfettered view of the Bowery exterior.  This morning it’s nearly all clear.

Last month, we reported that the Italian sandwich shop, Morale Foods, went out of business.  Today, we bring word that another restaurant will soon occupy 11 Stanton Street.  According to a commenter on the previous post, the new operation will be a pizza joint called “Pizza Junkie.”

Well, the wait is over. No more dilly-dallying.  Nearly a month after first revealing its trademark-infringing signage, (super) Mario’s Pizza is now serving slices, burgers, and wings at 147 East Houston.  We ambled past during dinnertime last night and saw a bunch of people sitting on the bar stools and eating in the booths.
