Bowery Boogie | A Lower East Side Chronicle

264 Bowery is a four-story tenement building sandwiched between two active restaurant supply companies – Globe Slicers to the north and Hawaii Restaurant Equipment to the south.  The narrow ground-level storefront has been dormant for years, but was once the home of Sosinna’s Cafe, an Ethiopian-Latin-Caribbean fusion joint, which originally opened back in mid-2001.

Cafe Colonial closed its doors for good on May 25 after sixteen years residing at the corner of Elizabeth and East Houston.  Less than one week later, the obscuring brown paper made its grand appearance in the cornershop windows.  A new establishment is currently in the works, and it’s surely not food, but a boutique [...]

Last night, the owners of the future restaurant at 245 Bowery held a public meeting for their latest enterprise, currently dubbed “S.R.O.”  Turnout was rather abysmal – just five people.  Nevertheless, the interaction was informative, and we now have a better glimpse of what’s happening here.

Two weeks ago, Eater brought the troubling news that another swanky Bowery 2.0 restaurant is currently in the works for 245 Bowery (at Stanton).  This, hot on the heels of McNally planting the flag of Pulino’s Bar and Pizzeria just up the block at the corner of East Houston.

Thanks to Pulino’s Bar and Pizzeria, the McNally Effect has claimed its first victim along East Houston.  Today is the last day in business for Cafe Colonial.  A dry-erase board out front confirms it, thanking customers for fifteen years of serving the community.  Stop in today for a final happy hour to bid the cafe [...]

Along with EV Grieve, we’ve certainly been keeping tabs on the sidewalk dining situation at Pulino’s Bar and Pizzeria.  Since the joint opened, tables situated in the Bowery-facing window-doors merely flirted with the concrete, but barely crossed the threshold.  That is no longer the case.
