In recent weeks, the new sandwich shop opening at 35 Orchard Street was officially christened.  Behold, Cheeky Sandwiches and its unique Dutch doors.  Some easy-to-miss signage in the glass above the entrance is now matched with a sidewalk engraving.  Opening date and menu is still up in the air, so check back for updates. A discarded sandwich in the eastbound intersection of Essex and Delancey nearly spelled disaster for a flock of pigeons.  The birds literally escaped a bloodbath by mere inches.  But the moment traffic was stopped at the red light again, they were back on the road, fighting for the prize.
