ShyMob Shrine on Rivington Gives Hope and Discussion

Five days later, ShyMob’s Hope shrine on Rivington Street has become an organic discussion board for neighborhood passersby.  He began the thread with, “I hope this shrine stays here a long time and is used every day.”  Well, it is.  The cardboard backing is now completely sheathed in random tags, street wisdom, and drawings.

For just a few short hours yesterday morning, an impressive assembly of street art was displayed on Rivington between Orchard and Ludlow.  Six different hand-crafted shrines were hooked onto the perimeter fence of the overgrown lot where the old First Roumanian-American Congregation Synagogue once stood [RIP 2006].

Con Artist Paints NeonSandwich

Wednesday evening, the Con Artist collective held a humorous display of public art beside its hatch-flap entrance. It was a veiled attempt to lure after-hours customers into the basement shop. And the tactic proved succesful.
