New Lower East Side Photography Exhibit at Gallery Bar

Starting tonight, Gallery Bar at 120 Orchard Street will be hosting an exhibition of photography entitled Sampling and Revisions: The LES Deframed.  The neighborhood-centric showcase will feature archival stills from the Tenement Museum collection alongside more contemporary work.  Opening reception is at 7 pm, but the event itself will run through March 24.

There is some unfortunate news to report today.  The Eisner Brothers Building at 75 Essex Street is now on the open market. Allison B. Siegel, an educator at the Tenement Museum, provided an excerpt of the exclusive story, including an interview with owner Shalom Eisner.

Staten Island Chuck and Punxatawny Phil have nothin’ on Tenement Tad.  Here in the Lower East Side, it’s Ground Rat day, as confirmed by the Tenement Museum.  In a tweet earlier this morning, they said:
LES ground rat Tenement Ted emerged from his privy hole this AM & saw his shadow, 6 more weeks of winter.
