Coming Soon: Otarian at 154 Bleecker

154 Bleecker had been enclosed in a sidewalk shed since mid-November of last year, wrapped in a colorful “coming soon” advertisement.  At the time, there really wasn’t a clear indication of the new tenant.  No longer.  Now the plywood is gone, the identity of the operation finally public – a new fast food vegetarian eatery called Otarian.

This is the first East Coast location for Otarian, which actually originated in Australia.  And according to NYinc, “the socially-conscious restaurant chain has committed to 1,605 square feet of ground floor retail space at a high $130 per square foot.”  A new London outpost is concurrently in the works.

As of earlier this week, final preparations were underway before its imminent opening.  A look behind the folded brown paper shows an interior defined by a greenish hue and overall antiseptic feel.
