The Joe’s Apartment short first aired on MTV back in 1992, and four years later, spawned the eponymous full-length film starring Jerry O’Connell. Both the movie and the short are rooted in the East Village, and focus on an Iowa transplant living in a rent-controlled apartment with singing roaches.
And check out the first (and funniest) ten minutes of the movie. Fresh off the boat, as it were, Joe struggles to find cheap housing in New York.
