Faile and BAST Deluxx FLUXX Arcade on Allen

Last Friday, we reported that a new arcade was planned for 158 Allen Street.  It’s actually just a temporary pop-up installation by street artists Faile and BAST called Deluxx FLUXX (not Vale).  The exhibition opens today, and will run through May 27.

The Faile and BAST Deluxx FLUXX Arcade had a London residency earlier this year, appropriating two floors of Lazarides Rathbone Place Gallery (yes, that same Lazarides which preceded Pulino’s).  158 Allen Street is obviously much smaller in comparison, but nevertheless retains the same pop-culture-on-speed vibe.  The space is cosmetically altered with plenty of neon and blacklight wheatpaste.

According to The Most Beautifullest Thing, the arcade units “run new games by Adapted Studio based on Faile and Bast’s omnivorous visual language, with sounds produced by Seth Jabour of the noted band Les Savy Fav.”

Police are searching for a man they say robbed the Eldridge Street Synagogue last Friday night. During Jewish Sabbath. At approximately 8:45pm, the perp was caught on surveillance footage entering the historic house of worship through a secured side window. Once inside, he stole a laptop and a nearly-empty cash box. It wasn’t until the […]

First Look at Saigon Social on Orchard Street

Saigon Social is inching toward launch on Orchard Street. Branded vestibule arrived a couple weeks ago, while the dining room appears ready to go with tables and token mural. The casual style restaurant at 172 Orchard is apparently a few inspections from opening here in the former Mission Cantina. At the mercy of the bureaucracy. […]

On Holocaust Remembrance Day, Hillman Houses Vandalized with Antisemitic Graffiti

Yesterday was International Holocaust Remembrance Day, also marking the 75th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz death camp. Here on the Lower East Side, though, it was apparently occasion for some antisemitism. Someone scrawled an antisemitic message – “fuck Jews” paired with botched swastika – inside the Hillman Houses at 500 Grand Street. The […]
