The Growlers’ Bus Parked on Essex Street

Parked on Essex Street for the better part of last Sunday was this flamboyant school bus.  The front was decorated to resemble a face, with a mouth on the grill and eyes on the lights.  And the word “fursure” emblazoned above the windshield.

It was so unique and conspicuous, we just had to find out more.  A man on board informed us that this was actually the tour bus for his band –  The Growlers.  They played a gig the night before at Mercury Lounge, and were about to hit the road back to their native California.  Also notable was the eclectic clutter stuffed into the windshield – maps, paint, a cassette tape, lemon timer, and stuffed animal.

The music is definitely worth hearing, though.  It has a surf/Hawaiian vibe with plenty of reverb, and is self-described as “beach goth”:
