Marco’s Gateway Mural is No More

Say goodbye to another thin slice of Lower East Side charm. The longstanding Marcoart mural on the north-facing facade of 192 Orchard Street is no more. Vanished. The charmingly funky artwork which greeted so many in our beloved neighborhood over the years is now buried under a coat of bland brown paint. Some of the colorful characters are just barely visible, though.

The paint job is still in progress, and will most likely lead to a billboard advertisement of some sort. So much for the gateway to the Lower East Side.
