Welcome to the Puddle Jumping Chronicles, a special look at navigating the city streets. This week, a discarded couch cushion is ingeniously utilized as a foot bridge across the river at the southeast corner of Essex and Rivington Streets. No doubt a welcome development given the ubiquitous puddles of mucky slush at virtually every step. It’s been there all week, and will likely remain until the streets are dry.

As with each snow city meltdown, as it were, navigating these dark pools of joy takes time and mental power. Valuable time we New Yorkers don’t have. In the end, the collect is always bad news for all the aggressive walkers out there. Time to invest in some galoshes!
