“A Late Quartet” Filming on the Lower East Side
Phillip Seymour Hoffman was last seen filming on the Lower East Side in February 2009. Indeed, scenes were shot for the stoner-ish Jack Goes Boating outside 62 Orchard Street. Hoffman will return to the neighborhood again today for another independent feature film called A Late Quartet. Production will primarily be focused in the immediate environs of Orchard between Rivington and Stanton.

However, filming is not just relegated to Hell Square. As EV Grieve noted yesterday, Seventh Street is also cordoned off for some street scenes.
A Late Quartet was co-written by Yaron Zilberman and Seth Grossman, and stars Phillip Seymour Hoffman alongside Christopher Walken and Catherine Keener. According to The Playlist, the plot is as follows:
The film chronicles the elder leader of a famed string quartet who is suffering from Parkinson’s Disease, throwing the future of the renowned group into question. As the quartet struggles to stay together on the eve of their 25th season, the group’s once-tempered egos violently collide.
