Detroit to Play Gotham in “Batman: Dark Knight Rises”
New York City is simply not gritty enough anymore to play the lead role as “Gotham” in Batman movies. Ironic…don’t you think? This latest installment is the third, and final, Christopher Nolan-directed film in the DC Comics franchise.

Pink is the New Blog has the following:
Although a CG-augmented Chicago has stood in for Gotham City in both Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, the Windy City reportedly won’t be used for The Dark Knight Rises. Reel Chicago reports “that Detroit won out over Chicago as a location for writer/director Christopher Nolan’s latest Batman entry, The Dark Knight Rises. Instead of shooting here, as originally announced, the movie will film in Detroit. Starting in May, it also will shoot in New Orleans, and two locations in the UK.” Michigan has become a popular shooting location thanks to its enticing tax incentives for filmmakers.
