Sutra to Host DJ Kool Herc Fundraiser Tonight
The net was abuzz yesterday with news that DJ Kool Herc was ill and in dire need of help. An “unknown health condition” requires surgery, and he doesn’t have medical coverage. So, in a swift show of support to the sickly hip hop pioneer, East Village nightclub Sutra is holding a fundraiser tonight to help cover the medical costs. Herc and DJ Premier are both regulars at Sutra.

Kool Herc generally received the respect of his hip hop brethren for inventing the genre, but was never really able to cash in on his trade.
