Gallery Bar Shuttered by NYPD Friday Night [Updated]

Just after midnight on Friday, Gallery Bar at 120 Orchard Street was closed by court order for three separate offenses.  A joyous tipster later informed us that “a major NYPD operation shut it down.”  Orange and red announcements have been duct-taped to the shuttered security gates ever since.  A copy of the legal paperwork was crumpled on the sidewalk Saturday afternoon, and later removed.

Gallery Bar was closed for the following violations:

  1. Illegal sale of alcoholic beverages.
  2. Operating in such a manner which endangers the safety/health of a number of persons.
  3. Employment of unlicensed security guards.

Our numerous calls for comment went unanswered.  Meanwhile, our tipster is quite happy about the closure, noting:

Finally, the worst, most poorly sound proofed club on the Lower East Side, Gallery Bar (a name that conferred such a false legitimacy), seems, hopefully, doneski.

UPDATE: Eater reports this morning that the court date is set for Wednesday afternoon.  They spoke with Gallery Bar owner Darren Rubell, and apparently the club has been under investigation for these violations since September 2010.
