From street level, the fate doesn’t appear too rosy for Sal’s, and a number of readers wrote in worried.  A pair of loud leasing signs above the first floor windows announce corner store availability at 369 Broome Street starting January 1, 2012.  But not to worry, the business is reportedly relocating down the block.  Sources tell us that the neighborhood pizzeria will soon move into the still-warm storefront which housed the infamous Umberto’s Clam House until last October.

Umberto’s itself, born on Mulberry Street in 1970, didn’t move too far away and is now settling into its new digs at 132 Mulberry.  The new locale is merely two blocks south at Hester.
