The trend of upscale boutiques at 94 Orchard Street is swiftly approaching its conclusion.  As we reported back in May, monosyllabic accessories shop, Bag, is set to vacate the premises imminently.  Printouts placed in the windows broadcast the news to passersby.  With their departure, a new type of tenant is swooping in as replacement.  And it’s of the nightlife variety.  One that may bring some competition to the decades-old New Beer Distributors over on Chrystie Street.

Monday evening, representatives from the Top Hops crew are slated to appear before CB3’s SLA committee to apply for a new wine and beer license at 94 Orchard.  According to the official documentation submitted two days ago, Top Hops (not to be confused with Top Shop) describes itself as a craft beer specialty store that will feature growlers, and serve “light fare” for diners.

Once interior renovations are complete, the updated space will reportedly don one fifteen-foot bar and have a small food preparation area.  Proposed hours of operation are 2 pm – 12 am, Monday through Friday; 12 pm – 12 am, Saturday; and noon – 8 pm, Sunday.
