City Council Meeting this Week on 135 Bowery Landmarking
Boogie reader Ralph Lewis informs us that the City Council Land Use Subcommittee is meeting this week regarding the contentious landmark designation of 135 Bowery (Thursday at 11 am). You may recall that this protective status was awarded to the centuries-old Federal style house back in June by a 6-1 vote, but that the bank-owner is fighting tooth-and-nail to have the ruling overturned. Applying constant pressure all summer.

As such, there is still plenty of fear among preservationists in the community who still have a bitter taste from the loss of 35 Cooper Square in the spring. Now is as good a time as any to sign the petition set forth by the Bowery Alliance of Neighbors. There are presently more than 400 signatures in support.
Let Margaret Chin and the Land Use Subcommittee know that we are behind them and this landmark.
