In his own convoluted memory of that night, he recounted the events that led to the “lights out” moment. The 34-year-old Degraw was having a night on the town, starting first at his place (which wasn’t mentioned) known as National Underground. While following the route he’s traveled “a thousand times,” a group jumped him at First Avenue and East Sixth Street, resulting in a concussion and broken nose. Stumbling away to commit himself in the hospital, the bloodied victim was then clipped by a taxi.
