Word just came through the wire of a fire at the corner of Grand and Eldridge Streets.  Exact address is 291 Grand Street. This blaze, captured on video from Boogie reader Cory Greenwell, is directly across the street from the site of the devastating fire last spring that crippled 285 Grand. Dark plumes of smoke were seen billowing into the late day sky.  More to come…

UPDATE 5:30 PM:

From a reader on the scene:

As we were buying peaches half a block over, i saw smoke lightly billowing out of the roof of the building then it increased from gray to black. as we neared and were watching it to see if anyone appeared to be inside, the fdny showed up surprisingly quickly. a crowd of 75-100 people eventually stopped and watched the 3 truckloads of firemen put it out. The flames were visible and once the fdny got on the roof, they were able to blast it out in a matter of seconds.  nevertheless, the flames were pretty tall and the smoke massive and black. one block away no one was even aware anything was happening.
