New Book Chronicles Diaries of New York City
Bestselling author Teresa Carpenter (Village Voice veteran) compiled some four centuries worth of diary entries about New York City in her new tome, New York Diaries: 1609-2009. The book chronicles the heartbeat of the metropolis from the perspective of its inhabitants and visitors. Blog posts are also included Journal entries begin on January 1 and follow the calendar through the rest of the year.

My experience is that a man cannot go anywhere in New York in an hour. The distances are too great—you must have another day to it. If you have got six things to do, you have got to take six days to do them in.
