Another Lower East Side Subway Planned for Essex Street
Here we go again, folks. Last year, Subway was crowned king of the international “restaurant” empire, besting McDonald’s by over one thousand stores. On a more micro level in the East Village and Lower East Side collectively, the song remains the same. Expand, expand, expand; we’re being overrun. Now the Hell Square periphery gets its own to boast. Indeed, Essex Street, you’re up next!

Branded marquee signage arrived at 153 Essex Street late last week, seemingly out of the blue. No signs or DOB notices had been pasted to the facade. Just run-of-the-mill papering of the windows. Its arrival here at the corner of Stanton comes barely two weeks after another outpost was announced for the old electronics shop on First Avenue, between Sixth and Seventh Street.
Here are the other Lower East Side locations below Houston:
- Subway opens at 229 Chrystie Street in November 2010.
- Subway opens at 66 Delancey in summer of 2010.
- Subway opens at 334 Grand Street in August 2009.
Please, no more Subway franchises!
