Florence Welch Accidentally Sets Fire to Room in Bowery Hotel

Fiery English songstress Florence Welch (yes, of Machine fame) just disclosed the sordid details of a recent booze-filled bender while in town for an acoustic show. The after-hours jaunt involved plenty of dirty martinis, a chipped tooth, and starting a fire inside the Bowery Hotel. Not quite the Riot House, but still an entertaining story. Welch confessed it all to Britain’s Q Magazine.

The proper shenanigans began in the Florence and the Machine dressing room after her acoustic performance, where she, Swedish singer Lykke Li, and Kanye West were reportedly pounding dirty martinis. Her seventeen drinks resulted in a lost cell phone, shredded dress, chipped tooth, and singed hotel room.

I think I must have had about 17 Dirty Martinis. I lost my phone and ripped my dress very badly. I accidentally set fire to The Bowery Hotel because I’d left a cinnamon tea light burning.

I came back to the hotel, passed out in my ripped dress – no phone, chipped tooth – came round and there was black stuff all over the wall, my book had melted on the bedside table and there was a bucket of water on the floor. Actually the last scene you want to wake up to with a hangover. Half the room was singed.”

The partying also left a nice dent in her bank account. Apparently the dressing room drinks were more expensive than the alleged “couple hundred” dollars of damage to the Bowery Hotel.
