Olek’s Crocheted Kicks Dangling Above Broome and Eldridge

Dangling shoes are probably one of the more unique features of the Lower East Side streetscape; it’s quite prevalent on our narrow neighborhood streets. The age-old urban ritual was the impetus behind our on-again-off-again feature in these pages called Lost Laces…and enough to inspire more awesome crochet work from Olek.

Indeed, the long-rotten kicks hanging from the wires at Broome and Eldridge now have colorful company, sagging the power lines even lower. Con Edison probably won’t be too happy by the sight.
This latest placement from the Polish-born artist comes on the heels of her Jersey Street message – “Love and stop lights can be cruel.”
