EMM Brings “The General” to Invade 199 Bowery

On the heels of delivering Finale to the Lower East Side (the former Crash Mansion room), EMM Group just announced the identity of the ground-level restaurant at 199 Bowery. Wait for it…The General. As in, the general marched to the front lines of gentrification to help decimate what’s left of the Bowery. Or like those annoying friggin’ cartoon commercials selling auto insurance.
As previously announced, the General is a “modern Asian” food concept by the hand of Catch chef Hung Huynh. Grub St notes that dishes will include firecracker crab claws, kung pao black sea bass, and chili-chicken-stuffed eggplant. “Urban excavation” is reportedly the decor of the 300-seat joint.
Expect the beginning of the end sometime in December when the whole shebang opens shop. The torchbearer of Lower Eastpacking has arrived.
