Chabad LES Plants Menorah in Delancey Street Median

This year, Chabad Lower East Side opted for the more ambitious route to celebrate Chanukah in the public square, so to speak. Rather than Ahearn Park (where Grand meets East Broadway), the Jewish organization decided to plant its life-size menorah in the Delancey median at Suffolk Street. Where traffic spills off the bridge in droves for maximum eyeballs. Its placement doubles as an advertisement for the international Orthodox branch.
The grand lighting ceremony transpired on Saturday at nightfall, beginning of the first day. Does this mean the Chanukah mobile is out of commission? Have you seen it around lately?
Meanwhile, a police cruiser remained on the beat, presumably to ensure no vandals desecrate the installation.
