Things that make you go hmmm – “we are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars.” This particular Oscar Wilde quote is the inspiration behind a new art project slated for the Allen Street Mall between Broome and Delancey Streets.

This is the marquee section of the Allen Street Mall, one that receives most of the attention from the city. Now its central planting bed will nurture the sculpture artwork of Kent Henricksen. If Community Board 3 gives the nod [PDF], his porcelain tree trunk will be planted in the somewhat green-less median. And it’ll carry an “arborglyph” of the aforementioned Oscar Wilde quote.
