GreenThumb certified since last November, the Siempre Verde Garden at 181 Stanton and 137 Attorney is already turning over a new leaf. And just in time for the arrival of spring. We stopped by Sunday afternoon only to see a small platoon of volunteers laying stepping stones in the dirt and tending to the bed of recently-planted daffodils. Siempre Verde should be ready for lounging in the near future.

The unknown variable, however, is whether HPD will actually sell these two parcels. Community Board 3 approved the concept of a new five-story project onsite last year with “affordable housing and rear yard,” but a more formal proposal was never submitted. So the garden will flourish until the bulldozers eventually arrive at some point down the line (hope not).
