Recap: Falun Gong Procession in Chinatown [PHOTOS]
Falun Gong faithful took to the street of Chinatown and Little Italy on Saturday afternoon to spread awareness of their cause. Billed as a parade, the event was more of a procession than anything else. It was defined predominantly by silence, with participants furnishing flags, banners, and posters. Anything to get the message across about the Chinese tradition and past persecution, sans slogans and shouting. The march began at Mott and Spring and terminated in Foley Square.
Falun Gong is a practice of self-cultivation that preaches “wellness and spiritual wisdom.” Many of its supporters in China were attacked by the Communist Party in 1999, leading to purported abuses and deaths.
