When Children’s Place vacated the Loews Delancey building at the corner of Suffolk Street two years ago, the rather large commercial footprint was carved into two separate spaces. 7-Eleven became the first replacement tenant, bringing its bright lights and bodega-killing mentality to the neighborhood. Contractors have been onsite since early last month remodeling the store ahead of a new budget tenant. Workers and employees roaming the store confirmed to us that GEM Super Value is opening here. Which, if you recall, is a homecoming for the brand. Indeed, the discount retailer previously operated one block west at 128 Delancey before Blue Condo decimated its ranks.

Perhaps this entrant will help keep Delancey a diverse stretch catering to all strata in the Lower East Side.
