If self-mutilation for comedy (a la Jackass) is your thing, BATSU will have you in stitches. The Monday night mainstay, a St. Marks institution for the last three years, is essentially improv comedy with a violent variety show twist. Those who fuck up are summarily punished for their crime, hence the Japanese moniker for the show. Methods of punishment include close range paintball, mouse traps, electric shocks, and basically anything to cause a cringe.

Now the wacky game show is expanding. Beginning August 1, the JeBon Noodle House will host a second night of BATSU. Thursday nights. So if you haven’t seen it already, get there.

BATSU was created by Face Off Unlimited three years ago, and quickly collected accolades for its inexpensive entertainment value. Have you seen it?
