‘The Normal Heart’ Resumes Filming in Little Italy Today
A month later, HBO production teams will infiltrate Little Italy for the TV movie The Normal Heart. Later today, as before, filming will hug the length of Elizabeth Street south of Houston.
The film is an adaptation of Larry Kramer’s classic autobiographical story. His experiences with the AIDS epidemic became the basis of The Normal Heart, a play which premiered at the Public Theater in 1985. Setting is sometime between 1981 and 1984, and focuses on a writer (Ned Weeks) whose lover is dying of an as-yet-unnamed disease. Kramer penned the screenplay, and Ryan Murphy (Glee, American Horror Story) is behind the camera as director.
