This past Monday was opening day at the Lower East Side Animal Hospital on the northern block of Eldridge Street. Owner and veterinarian Mark Seibert and his staff gave us a grand tour of the newly renovated space, which they had been sprucing up for the last few months. The state of the art facility offers conventional animal care (providing wellness exams, surgery, dentistry, etc), along with alternative treatments such as acupuncture, homeopathy and herbal remedies.

Many pet owners in the area have been looking forward to the arrival of the animal hospital. Aside from needing a vet in the neighborhood, word on the street (and online) is that Seibert has a great rep. He also owns the beloved Heart of Chelsea Animal Hospital, which has been around since 1999.

The space was busy on its first day, and staffers were quite attentive to both their four legged and two legged customers. (If only we could get treated this well at our own doctor’s offices!) Neighbors were also stopping by to say hello, thrilled to have a new daytime business on the block.

Aside from Dr. Seibert and the lovely support staff, we also met Dr. Amy Crain, who grew up with dogs, cats and horses. Our very shy pup took quite a liking to her, so we’re planning on coming back for a checkup in the near future.

The Lower East Side Animal Hospital is now open at 241 Eldridge Street. (212) 390-VETS (8387).

Hours are: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, 8am – 8pm. Wednesday, 8am – 6pm. Saturday, 8am – 4pm.
Sunday hours will start in a few months at one of the two locations. Call to check beforehand.
