What was Khushie Kitchen up until last year is now switching ethnic flavors. That’s right; in short order, 139 Essex Street will serve up Venezuelan fare. Neons arrived onsite last week and are already burning bright nightly.
As we first reported last May, Patacon Pisao is transforming the shoebox store into another brick-and-mortar outpost, its third in the Five Boroughs behind Queens and Washington Heights. It’ll carry the same menu offering as the original. But you’ll need to hold out a bit longer. Owner Jonathan Hernandez tells us the restaurant is still a few weeks out, and that Con Edison is to blame; the gas needs to be turned on. No surprise there.
Meanwhile, the Patacon Pisao food truck is still driving around town to sate your appetite.
