The city is starting to crack down on illegal billboards outside neighborhood businesses. You know, those flyer-filled frames with sponsorships written above. Apparently many of these ad spaces are not properly permitted. We’re told a few in these parts were carted away within the last week … or cleared and painted white.

This crackdown presented a prime opportunity for street artist Hanksy to decorate. Meet the “polar bear in a blow storm.” As in yayo or cocaine.

The Sharpie art is located near his usual spot on Orchard just south of Canal Street. It probably won’t last long.

Other Hanksys on this spot included “You Had me at Jello” and the Walter White Bald Eagle.

The 12-story “boutique condo” at the corner of Delancey and Pitt Streets – in the works for nine years already – dropped its marketing materials this week.
