Dunkin’ Donuts/Baskin Robbins at 250 East Houston is Closed for ‘Renovations’

The Center for an Urban Future published the sixth edition of its annual “State of the Chains” study last week. Dunkin’ Donuts was crowned victor this year, now with 515 franchise locations in New York City. Well, one of those Lower East Side locations – 250 East Houston Street – might be in trouble.
The Dunkin’ Donuts/Baskin Robbins fatness-combo has been operating at the Red Square strip mall for years. Last week, however, its marquee was stripped bare, leaving elements of ghost signage. Even though a plethora of printouts and placards indicate interior renovations are afoot here, it seems the story could be deeper. As in, permanent. Nevertheless, the announcements proclaim that remodeling should be complete by December 11, two days from now. Fat chance.
