The last few years couldn’t have been easy for Sheherazade at 121 Orchard Street. Bookended by semi-permanent scaffolding and perpetual construction activity (both hotels, we might add), the specialty Moroccan furniture shop is pretty much out of sight. Now, the real estate reaper is coming for them. Attached to the entryway is a new “for rent” sign advertising the space as available (22,000 square feet for the ground level, 18,000 in the basement).

Sheherazade is a Lower East Side stalwart, having spent more than a decade peddling at this address. They’re currently holding an annual sale offering 60% off merchandise.

We contacted the store for more info on the closure, but haven’t heard back as of publication. Might be a safe assumption that it’s rent related…
