Burkina changed its name

In 2011, Burkina NYC was chased from its home of seventeen years on East Houston to make way for a nightlife establishment that few frequent – Preserve 24. The urban outfitter eventually settled north of the border at 69 First Avenue, right beside Downtown Bakery. Though, it almost didn’t make it out alive.

Back in January, Burkina announced a going-out-of-business sale, which entailed peddling everything in the store for $5. That customer-friendly clearance was so successful, that it purportedly led to a lease renewal with the landlord. However, in the aftermath of said deal, it seems the original branding is no longer front and center. A new awning carries an updated namesake, and seems to cater more toward a tourist element…”Got it 4 Cheap.”

Meanwhile, a tipster tells us that Burkina is actually planning to expand further north to 14th Street. Despite the setbacks earlier this year. The details of that deal are still under wraps, though.
